As an automotive enthusiast I would like to to start off this new blog with a bang. As the title suggests, the appearance has to follow the function of an object, specifically speaking a vehicle. Appearance plays a big part in the design of cars today. Mainly exotic cars sometimes referred to as Sports Cars, Supercars, and even Hypercars. What I am describing is not an average car you would find on the road, no average person could afford one or maintain one. Their cost can be anywhere around or above $500,000. The higher up you go they get better quality, more options, better performance, faster output, better looking, and simply less realistic as an everyday commuter car. These types of cars usually get the most criticism because of their gas mileage (or lack of it), price tag, insurance costs, status symbol, and size (usually very long and wide). However, they get a lot of praise because of the industrial achievement they have made, thanks to competition between companies, and how outstandingly well they perform. But, lets not forget looks. Usually these are the cars on posters in bedroom walls, typically Ferrari and Lamborghini are the most widely known. They are like the Tiffany and Co. or "designer brand" of the automotive industry.

Now please sit back and enjoy these videos.
I share with my brother a huge love for automobiles. In the beginning, when I came to study abroad, I was stunned by all the new cars around me. I can't talk about percentages, but I can tell that a huge amount of the cars I see here are different to the ones I can see in Europe. Obviously, most of these cars wouldn't be purchased by Europeans due to their poor mileage (gas in Europe is about double the US price) -and I'm not talking about the beautiful cars of your pictures, but Mustangs, Camaroes, Challengers, Cadillacs, etc. Every time I see a new car, I stop and take pictures not only from every side, but also from the inside whenever I have the chance, in order to share it with my brother. I really look like a creepy stalker full of excitement at the mall parking lot. I'm afraid one of these days I'm going to get in trouble.
ReplyDeleteRight, lots of cars in Europe are fuel efficient and clean diesel. Funny, I take lots of picture of cars too, it's a hobby. You should check out the Philadelphia Auto Show some time if you haven't already. It is a yearly event and is usually in the month of February. It takes place in the Convention Center in Philly. I have been going there with my father for the past four years in a row. At the show you have to freedom to sit in and explore all areas of about 80% of the vehicles. I took hundreds of pictures there and sat in a few of my favorites.
DeleteYes! I used to go to car shows in Spain! I was aware of the Philadelphia Auto Show, but I couldn´t go. Hopefully I will be there next time!
ReplyDeleteThat's cool, did you have the freedom to explore the vehicles also?
DeleteI still find it fascinating that you plan to design cars in the future. From what I saw in the video, Horacio Pagani's car is literally a work of art. Do they even make a lot of Pagani Huayras? You mentioned that not many people actually purchase the cars. I don't know much about this subject, but I have heard that people tend to make only a few copies of cars this extravagant. I could be wrong. That car is actually beautiful. After reading this I'm interested in what your favorite car is and what you drive now!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you watched the video! (: That is exactly right!
DeletePagani makes about 40 Huayras a year and have sold about 105 globally (18 in the U.S.) And you are right, most companies make a limited number of cars and in the past Pagani has made limited editions of its Zonda. But there hasn't been word of the Huayra becoming limited yet or a new edition... I'm sure it will happen though. My favorite car is the Pagani Zonda Cinque although I can't see myself actually owning one in the future... It is a dream... (: You can see some pictures of it here. http://www.netcarshow.com/pagani/2009-zonda_cinque/
And for the record the Huayra goes for about $1.6 million...
I drive a little 1986 Toyota pickup that is a four speed manual gear box and manual steering. It's a lot of fun and I learned to drive in it!
